Eleanor McDaniel is a registered and board certified Creative Arts Psychotherapist licensed in the state of New York, as well as a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor.
She specializes in treating and supporting individuals who are struggling with recovery from addictive substances and behaviors. Currently she operates a private psychotherapy practice in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her past professional experience includes providing substance abuse counseling, art therapy and psychotherapy in an outpatient substance abuse setting. She began her career working in Rikers Island Correctional Facility providing mental heath and art therapy services to incarcerated individuals.
Eleanor obtained her Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Painting and Drawing from Warren Wilson College, followed by her Master of Arts in Art Therapy from New York University.
Her research in utilizing art therapy and the comic book format with an incarcerated individual has recently been published in "Art Therapy for Psychosis: Theory and Practice". This book was edited by Katherine Killick and published through Routledge and The International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis Book Series. Eleanor is also a visual artist and dancer, who has experienced the empowerment that is born from creative expression.
